Easy Way to Farm Metal Ingot Sark
Don't try to kill the shark. Try shark bait the first few times until you get the hang of it. Throw the anchor a bit farther from the island and swim over there. The shark stays near your raft and you can harvest as long as you want. Your first metal should be used to upgrade your raft, though, so the shark will not destroy it.
Anyone got any tip on farming metal? I know it's found deep underwater by islands but you spend so much time looking for it that you don't get much between shark spawns. There has got to be an easier way to get it. Any help would be appreciated.
Easiest way to farm metal is around the big tropical islands. Anchor your raft next to the big island in an area that has NOTHING underwater. Jump on the island and them get into the water maybe 50-60 meters away. That way the shark stays with the raft and does not follow you. If it follows you it means you have entered the water too close to the raft. If this happens go back to the raft go to the island and get into the water further away.
This guide has info on all the big islands:

Best islands for metal are Plateau Island and Triple Island but all will give your 30ish metal a least.

Lol, why? Don't waste ressources for shark bait when u don't play hardcore. @ normal, when the shark open his mouth, stab him. When your timing is good, the shark will do no damage to you. For me, I farming my food "with" the shark :)

I got the impression that the shark was raft focused when I did the cruise ship and the shark didn't follow/chase me over. I also found if I stayed on the other side of the large islands opposite the side I wanted to farm, the shark never came over. I get the feeling the shark is leashed to the center of the raft. Maybe there is a piece he cannot destroy and he is stuck to that piece. From a mechanical point of view, that makes some sense.
But the question is how do you get back to the raft if you swim over. Are you supposed to carry enough bait to throw before you head back? Because if you are in the water and throw the bait, the shark ignores it.
Also what if you create a foundation bridge out from the raft and jump out. Does the bridge extend the shark's range? It does not feel like it does but I can't be certain.

I only play on hard, so... Though the shark is really good food, I prefer to fish.
Go to the big cruise ship. I forgot which coordinates are for it but it has an insane amount of scrap aboard.

What good does scrap do me? I need metal that makes bolts / hinges

When u play @ hard I understand that u don't kill the shark. When u play normal or easy, kill the shark.. Every day.. Every minute :)
When parked, the shark will stay close to the boat so I just park my raft on one side of the island and go to the opposite side to farm in the water. Sometimes its a good haul like 10+ sometimes just 2 or 3. When you get near an island looking in the water you can tell if there are goods below or a largely blank drop off.

At worst the shark will bite you twice while you swim back to the raft, which is nothing to worry about if you are playing on easy difficulty. Not sure about higher difficulties. If you keep an eye on it and stab it at the right time, it won't be able to bite you at all.
The best way is to anchor to opposite side of the island, which has no sources. Shark waits with the raft and you can farm safely. Do not waste your time for other materials. You should focus only metals (they are a bit more sharp than copper) Although small islands have little sources, most of them have pretty good metal sources i.e. 10-16 pieces.. big islands which have no bear on it have 20-26 pieces of metal. Island with bear has no metal or copper so do not waste your time on them. Also you can use your radar. There is a point that you can see 3 big islands and some small islands which are close to each other...
I have a really big ship that contains around 1000 foundations and 10-12 engines on base floor. I covered almost all base. 90-100 foundations left to cover with metal to complete my sharkproof ship. ;) now I gave a break to complete my military duty.. I will start again 4 months later..
